As some of you lucky Brits ready yourselves for Reading and Leeds Festival I’ll be watching social media to check everything is in order (ie, going mad and having the best time ever). It’s a great time of year for us ‘guitar’ music fans as so many fans are emerging from writing sessions and getting ready for busy gig seasons globally.
Three New Tunes Not To Miss
You Me At Six have returned! It’s been a while since our guys shared new music and this is a taste of project number 7? An alt-swagger that’s a fresh sound for them but totally fits.
Waterparks are sharing more from Fandom in the form of WWHN (“Watch What Happens Next”). Another explosion of talent from our favourite fun-packed trio.
And rounding up with a track some of you new music hounds might have caught from Slave. “Gnarlah” is still growing relentlessly and sounding bigger every time
Album Review
Slipknot – We Are Not Your Kind
Whatever goes on in the minds of the Slipknot camp it’s pretty magical. As in, when these nine musicians, artists get together after pretty respectable periods of time together they do some incredible things. Despite the scene-setting opener, the album is a mixture of adrenaline-rush staples and thoughtful moments to reflect (or catch a breather). You’ve got the full-throttle Slipknot anthems in tracks like “Unsainted” and “Orphan” and surprise minor-key off-kilter bursts in the form of “What’s Next” or “My Pain”.
Top Track: “Nero Forte” – the first 5 seconds set this track up beautifully. If you’re into workouts and stuff, I thing this is pretty powerful stuff. Corey’s lyrics vs delivery again will again breed a tonne people singing the wrong lyrics for a bit, but it’s undeniably catchy yet brutal. Everything we need from the guys really and just one of many reasons this has made a Number 1 album in the UK, US, AUS and more.
Audio Catch
The Three Track Podcast came to me via Google search of ‘music podcasts’. I was searching for something new, something interesting and something different that wouldn’t have come from my sphere of friends and connections. I wasn’t disappointed.
I’m listening currently to Episode 79 with Pete Paphides where I’m learning about Dial A Disc (a great modern history lesson) and it’s a really enjoyable listen where you learn something and help form your own opinions about music you might not have given the time of day beforehand.
Amazing Radio – Alternative playtime has begun
And join me and my actual voice on Amazing Radio Wednesday 28th August! After a packed previous show I’ll be repeating our Hang Out with The Amazons from earlier in the year!
Till next time,
