…a phrase I’ve used a lot this week after seeing Rammstein in Berlin on Saturday night. <– the most insane sentence I never thought I’d write, ever. And they didn’t let me down. It was something else. To top that off, Dinosaur Pile-Up are on the Radio 1 playlist! AWESOME! And there’s still tonnes of festivals to come. So we are truly spoilt.
Three New Tunes Not To Miss
After a bit of a break, Big Spring are back with their huge sounding savage rock style. Hopefully the beginning of a fresh EP in the works.
DZ DEATHRAYS are a band that can turn up in most countries now and smash out some incredible live shows that have a fresh wave of ears asking their friends, ‘have you heard this band?’. They very much own that raw, scuzzy thrash + punk + rock space and as we go rolling into what we assume is album #4 for these guys I can’t wait!
You know me, I love a bit of energy in a tune, and “Leave It All Behind” is supercharged with it! A great return from a band loved around the world: Sleeping With Sirens! And a fun video too 👀
Album Review
The Lafontaines – Junior
The Lafontaines have really made a mark with Junior. A slightly less heavy listen than usual, but one that’s important as it sets up the scene of things are running in the alt world. Genre here doesn’t really exist, and where it does, it serves only to try and describe music as you try and describe colours with feelings. From “All In” which has vocal rhythms (not rap, but not not rap ha), through to elements of electronica through to “Pro” which has elements of R&B + smoothness it’s a great collection.
Top track: Although the lead single, “Alpha” is still a great, upbeat, feel-good vibes track, with plenty of movement and energy throughout. A great introduction for those looking to get to know the band.
Audio Catch
Apparently I’m about 6 months late to this one, but very much better late than never vibes! This podcast feels like I’ve tuned into two of my best mates who just happen to be chatting to some of the coolest artists in the world and have some crazy moments, but then always come back and hang out in the hood with a cuppa. Fronted by Sean Smith (who you may have known from the brilliant band The Blackout) and his mate / journalist Morgan Richards.
Amazing Radio – Alternative playtime has begun
And join me and my actual voice on Amazing Radio Wednesday 3rd July from 7pm for loads of the best new noisy music of now, with a bit of a warm up for 2000 Trees, a brand new Plugged In (tune of the week) and more.
Till next time,
Elise x
