With all the festival, gigs and album announcements that have gone out over the past couple of weeks, 2019 is going to the year of being skint. But because you’re having a great time! A sacrifice worth making if you can. Slam Dunk Festival have released a beast of a line-up, Community Festival and All Points East are going with heavier styles and with the likes of Royal Blood being announced for the Reading & Leeds festival one would hope we’re getting new stuff from them, not the mention others we’ve already found out about.
Three New Tunes Not To Miss
Gloo first pummeled their way into my playlists in 2016 and haven’t really left. The Littlehampton trio know exactly how to wake us all up and it’s a proper mosh pit anthem in the making 🤘
The Amazons have traditionally been known as a great British indie / guitar band, but this latest release (a nudge in the right direction for their new stuff) is great modern rock number.
If I told you I’d found a new garage rock band from Austin, Texas, you might not be blown away (it’s a fairly common thing…given the location and the general cool AF vibe that city has), but wait! Listen to Black Pistol Fire here and all you guys lapping up the rich, thoroughbred rock sounds can find a new favourite here.
SWMRS – Berkley’s On Fire
A proper punk-infused number for me, but one artist that deserves to be called out for their hard work that’s resulted in this brilliantly put together, 10-song LP. From the opening bars of “Berkley’s On Fire” you can tell you’re in for a bright and upbeat ride. Shape-shifting through the realms of punk, rock and alt-leaning tracks you can get your teeth stuck into tracks like “Lose Lose Lose” whether you’re a fan of the noisier music or not, have a proper punk pop singalong with “April In Houston” and garage rock your socks off with “Hellboy”. Just in time (kind of) for summer 2019!
Top track: Hellboy
Loads of you would have heard what this legendary team are up to in the podcasting space, but it’s full of fire, definitely opinionated and brilliantly put together. Not only is there the podcast, but a great newsletter to sign up to as well. I’m deliberately avoiding talking about what’s in the podcast per se (see title 😉)
Amazing Radio – Alternative playtime has begun
And join me and my actual voice on Amazing Radio next week, Wednesday 6th January from 7pm where I’ll be chatting to Atlanta’s (and the world’s really) best R&B core band ISSUES. And, as ever, loads of the best new noisy music of now, a brand new Plugged In (tune of the week) and loads of new noisy music.
Till next time,
