#54 Agressive Herpes

Not the name of a personal condition I wish to share with you, but the name of one of many new tracks uploaded by Sticky Shit, the next big thing…in a parallel universe perhaps.  If you manage to pick your way through this EP, definitely check out ‘In Spastics Caskets’. Songs about dogs. Always worth casting an ear. But Agressive Herpes has to be a stand out track. I mean, starting a song with a burp…priceless.

Next up is a fantastic new blusey rock band Black Mekon – if you read their Facebook blurb you’ll know nothing other than they’re a duo from Birmingham who have managed to tour a lot of the world with their craft. Think The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion x 10000.

Now for me, the Irish scene has mostly been some cracking new alt-rock bands…or B’witched. Turns out I’m being completely ignorant! WHICH IS GREAT! More new music for me. Let’s meet Hozier aka Andrew from Co/Wicklow delivering what he calles Twenty First Century Blues.

Violent Soho are no underground band in Australia – 7 albums in & harnessing my personal love of grunge these guys have not failed me. Check out the new tune ‘Covered In Crome’ that wouldn’t go amiss on my playlist.

ASTR are a duo that lives, works and writes music in New York City, after meeting three years ago in a Manhattan yoga class. Yogo apparently produces music like this… and I like it quite a bit. Let’s hope we can get them onto UK soil for The Great Escape or something sooner.

Wrapping up this week with the boss that is MIA. With over 1 million friends on Facebook and an eagerly awaited fourth album simply named ‘Matangi’. With a more deep, grimey sound than was hinted by the media world beforehand. Delighted!
